Comparing Microneedling and Dermapen Mesotherapy: Which is Right for You?
There is often confusion between both Dermapen Mesotherapy and Microneedling. Knowing which procedure is best for your needs can sometimes be difficult to navigate through. While mesotherapy is beneficial for aiding in healthier skin cells and fine superficial wrinkles, microneedling is more effective for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles overall. This is because microneedling stimulates a healing response in the skin which produces collagen and elastin which is essential in keeping skin looking smooth and plump.
MESOTHERAPY
Mesotherapy is a procedure that is a very effective alternative to microdermabrasion which sloughs off the surface layer of the skin and aids in absorption of facial products. Mesotherapy takes 75% of the stratum corneum. It will repair very superficial injuries to the stratum corneum in a controlled way. Mesotherapy also acts as an aid in accelerating the effects of skincare products. Mesotherapy can be done monthly and has less downtime then microneedling.
MICRONEEDLING
Microneedling is a procedure used to target different skin conditions in a minimally invasive way. Microneedling causes tiny injuries on the epidermis and dermis layer of the skin by irrigating and triggering the healing response. The small micro wounds close after a short time and trigger the bodies healing through stimulating your skin cells which causes new skin to form . The result is a thicker more youthful skin by producing fibroblasts and growth promoting properties.
New collagen, elastin and GAGS (Glycosaminoglycans) form reducing the appearance of rhytids, hyper pigmentation, scarring, dull skin land leaves a brighter, clearer complexion. In between skin layers there is stretchy tissue (elastin) held together with collagen and a liquid (GAGS). It is vital for all 3 to be triggered together for optimal results. Microneedling is only ever done on skin types 1-3 and only sometimes on skin type 4 in the Fitzpatrick Scale.
Microneedling can be done once to upkeep skin and give a great facial for those who just want fresher skin or if you are targeting a specific issue a series of treatments is recommended. Treatments should not be done prior to 6 weeks in between each procedure and should never exceed 8 treatments annually. Vitamin C and acidic ingredients should NOT be used for 4 weeks after a Microneedling treatment.
